A 'ships meme, nabbed from elyssadc. I've done it before, but not for a while, and I've acquired lots of new fandoms since then.

lots of opinions about quite a few pairings )

fandom: doctor who (novels), fandom: doctor who (eight), memes

To the extent I actually wrote het (which is not a lot) I kind of liked Blake/Cally as a pairing, especially since I kind of see the first-crew setup as Blake and his one-person chain of command, Avon and his one-man feudal system, and Jenna and (temporarily) Gan.

Blake/Cally makes more sense to me in terms of characterization than Avon/Cally, even though I do tend to think that Blake's gay.

I dislike Blake too much to think of him as gay.

Yes, it does to me too. I really don't see Avon/Cally at all!

I'll say Second Doctor/Jamie, because they love each other in a way that's sweet

Awwwwwwwww. I love this answer!

The Doctor, for his part, will kiss Fitz at the slightest provocation.

I NEED TITLES!!! For real. I keep hearing about all this slashy goodness but there are just too many 8/Fitz books and I don't know which are the ones worth reading. Are there any that particularly stand out in your mind as being the most slashtastic?

Two and Jamie are just so . . . cuddly. I love it.

As for which EDAs to read for the Eight/Fitz goodness, that's a tricky question. First of all, there's a useful list here of all the EDAs. The thing is, as you said, there are a lot of these books and the character development happens in small increments in a lot of them. Plus, there are several big plot arcs that can lead to confusion if you read later books first ( ... )

YOU ARE THE GREATEST PERSON IN THE HISTORY OF EVER!!!!!!!

Holy shit, dude. I can NOT thank you enough for compiling this list for me. I actually scored most of the Eighth Doctor books in pdf form a while back but was so overwhelmed I never really tackled them. This is PERFECTION. ::mwah::

You're very welcome!

You may also find this post by lcsbanana helpful. It's one of the things that I read when I was new to the EDAs, and it made all the difference to me in terms of being able to figure out what was going on. There are plot spoilers, but I don't think most Eight/Fitz fans are reading the EDAs for the plots anyway.

Why do you feel that Sirius/Remus makes no sense now? Or do you mean as an OTP, in which case, no, that makes no sense anymore!

I think that the timing of the Remus/Tonks relationship conflicts with any belief that Remus was in love with Sirius. There are ways around it in fic, certainly, but I do think that now there's a big canon obstacle in the way of the pairing. Not Remus/Tonks per se, but when that happened.

The timing didn't bother me at all - to me it looked like the Remus/Tonks friendship/attraction developed into a relationship after Sirius died, but I know not everyone thinks of it that way.

Well, perhaps not. But I mentioned Avon/Cally and that brought Blake/Jenna to mind.

That's probably only because Everyone Loves Avon so pairings without him aren't as popular.

I virtually never ship characters except in pairs. I like a few threesomes, but mostly as lightweight PWPs. But I have said before, if anyone wants to write Blake/Avon/Blake's clone, I'm there. Or GP Blake/Soolin/Avon (the idea alone is just... deliciously dangerous)

Foursomes are untidy, I then like to skip up to the good old-fashioned orgy, of which we don't get nearly enough :(

There's no such thing as "everybody else loves it" in fandom. Though I think Jim/Blair (TS) gets even closer to it than the due South one, really the only fans who don't love J/S either dislike slash (and they're all J-S gen fans) or... umm... that's it, actually.

"I can't believe I read it and liked it" ship: I once read Jarriere/Og. And it worked. In a... way.

Oh, yes, The Sentinel. I've only seen a couple episodes of the show, and I don't know much about the fandom, but I have read some truly hilarious Jim-Blair smarm where they're constantly cuddling naked and pressing their bodies together, but the author keeps insisting that's it's absolutely not sexual.

Jarriere/Og

That's kind of terrifying.

TS was where smarm got going, and some of it is a guilty pleasure all of its own (the good stuff, the bad is.. is... oy vey:) There's also the 'bonding' stories, a whole (and incomprehensible to outsiders) absolutely-not-sexual-yeah-right subset.

That's kind of terrifying. The writer in question specialised in kind of terrifying - or completely squicky. Or both :)
