Peter A. David needs a good beating with a clue stick

I was willing to ascribe PAD's previous post about Don Imus's remarks to ignorance (the kind of ignorance that comes from privilege) rather than to ill intent. In fact, I felt confident that once he saw the nasty racism in many of the comments he got, he'd think again about what he'd said.

And then came today's post. Which looks less like Just Not ( Read more... )

I used to think Peter David was a reasonably bright person, but these two posts have pretty much proven to me that he's developed a bad case of cranial anal impaction. The reductio ad absurdum of NABJ petitioning to shut down a hypothetical production of "Hair" pretty much killed any lingering hope I had that the asshattery of the comments thread on the first post was merely a matter of him giving his commentors room to explore the issue.

Julia, last night's exploration of the Imus case on "On The Media" was an eye-opener.

I haven't really been following the Imus case all the much, but from what I've read, I'm amazed at all the other shit Imus has got away with saying over the years. Yuck.

As for Peter David . . . yeah, he may need surgery to get his head out of his ass.

PAD is a terrific writer, but he's an asshole in person. Well, online, anyway. I used to be on one of his messageboards in pre-LJ days, then realised that if I read any more of his comments, I'd stop reading his comics, which I liked very much, and didn't have that stupidity in them. Maybe he thinks more about his fiction than he does about his real life? So I suppose my vote is for ignoring his silly carryon unless he brings it into the activity for which he is paid - writing comics and books.

That's so depressing. And confusing. I really don't understand how someone whose writing is so thoughtful and sensitive, so alert to ethical and moral issues, can be such a dick in real life.

I think it's definitely time I exercise my free speech rights and unsubscribe to his blog's RSS feed.
