I'm so fascinated with the way you handle the dysfunctional relationships of the Winchesters. (Although a part of me wishes they'd just hug it out.)

Poor Dean! That fall stuck with me after I read this the first time.

Oh boy, I must've been holding my mouth right today! And you say it's finished, huh? I'm so glad you're reposting the whole thing because I'd need to read it again anyway. I've said it before, but it bears repeating--I love this story like burning. The relationship between Dean and John in the backstory and between Dean and Sam in the present are so thick with emotion and tension that doesn't even need any explanation. It's right out there plain to see in the dialog and the tone. Degrees of guilt. The parallels in how John and Sam deal (or don't deal) with it. Dean caught in the middle and just trying to keep his head above water, choking down his own feelings and needs to propitiate his family's.

I've managed to forget enough of the details that it feels like reading it fresh--the pieces of the mosaic that makes up the story revealing themselves at their own pace--but with a sense of familiarity like catching up with an old friend as the things I love about it reach out to me again.

Oh yay! I can remember really liking what I read of this story when you posted it last time, and I'm actually quite amazed how much of it I remember, but I'm really glad you're doing a "rerun" before you post the new part! A little bit of a memory jog never hurt anyone!
