What you aren't hearing on TV

I know that everyone is stuck on New Orleans, and it absolutely kills me. All of the coastal cities in Mississippi are GONE and nothing is being said about it. All of the benefits done by the celebrities are to benefit New Orleans. Biloxi, Gulport, Pass Christian, Bay St. Louis and whatever else is down there aren't even there anymore. The media does tend to pick one thing and run with it, and ignore everything else. That must be so incredibly frustrating for those of you who are there and know what else is going on.

I know this is going to cause of small shit storm (and I'm not going to reply to any comments about what I say because I'm not going to overload your journal with an arguments), but it's a lot easier for the media to dwell on New Orleans because of the amount of Black people there. "Oh look, we can turn this into a big race issue and make money off the suffering people are doing at the same time! Hooray!"

I've given up on watching CNN cover that crap. Ever since they had ONE particular story that they completely twisted I've given up. All we get out of the news is: Hurricane Katrina hit ONLY NEW ORLEANS. Wtf ever. I have a theory about it, but it's pretty out of line and I probably shouldn't share it... kinda related to what binkybunny was saying though, and I'm in total agreement of what she had to say.

I agree about the racial thing. 95% of the news coverage of Hurricane Katrina was about racial issues. It wasn't necessary.

Good post. It's nice to hear it from a point of view that ISN'T military.
