As I work through Margo's pattern, I am making the kirtle first as suggested so I can get the square correct on the smock. Do you think that precaution is necessary? I'd much rather start with the smock...
I can understand why Margo suggests the kirtle first. I almost did that, too. But I started with the smock knowing I would not be able to finish the neckline until the kirtle was done, mainly because my fitting partner is heading to ComicCon this week, so I wouldn't get very far with my kirtle mockup until she got back. So most of smock will be done first, then the kirtle, then finishing up on the neckline after the kirtle is done.

Kimiko, the Black Rose Ball I know of is SCA East Kingdom in Rhode Island. Is that the one you're talking about? A google search doesn't immediately show me any other possibilities.
If so, OMG, so excited! I guess I will have to be there so I can meet you and be in the presence of costuming goddesses! You're a huge inspiration to us newbies at costuming.

Sadly, no, this one will be in the Kingdom of Caid, somewhere in Long Beach/Los Angeles area. They don't have a web site, just a Facebook page for the event. Sorry to disappoint.
And I am honored to be considered an inspiration to anyone, thank you. {blush}

Aw. Sadness. :( I hadn't thought you were on the East Coast, but if I were able to remember where all my favorite inspirations lived, I'd be a stalker. ;)
