Padded torso?

Mar 19, 2009 20:12

About my last post, and looking at the inspiration image... I am wondering if the woman in that portrait is wearing a bodice that has been padded into a rounder shape? It is so smooth and perfectly flat.

I don't know if I want to pad my torso.

fitting, 1590s b&w gown, research

Hmmm... usually those ladies liked to show off their pregnancy in portraits. But it is possible.

That's what I am thinking, but the event can get hot and I don't want to be in a padded torso piece.

I think it's the only way you're going to get a flat front while still having that convex curve on that long a bodice point.

The whole look is so outre that a little bit of padding isn't going to make it any more so. Have I mentioned that I really admire you for having the chutzpah to attempt this period?

Thanks. My GM Pat gave me a challenge, and well... it's hard to say no to a challenge, especially for such a special event as this 20th anniversary.

And if I have to pad it (with cotton wadding), I will... but it is a hot event, and I don't want to have heat stroke.
