Asthmatic bronchitis?

May 29, 2015 07:32

I've been resting and resting, coughing and coughing, but things may finally be improving!

  1. April 7 (seven weeks ago): The cough became violent & my chest often felt tight, like my lungs couldn't inflate enough & I couldn't get enough air. (Apparently, this is what docs call "shortness of breath.")
  2. April 14 (six weeks ago): GP diagnosed bronchitis.

Is the asthma inhaler some kind of steroid? Flovent? In people with possible sugar or yeast issues, it can start causing yeast overgrowth (aka oral thrush) in the mouth and throat almost immediately. But if you need it, you need it. A super thorough rinsing of the mouth and throat after use of the inhaler can make a huge difference. If I've got the kind of inhaler wrong, though, I have no ideas and you should ignore this. :-P

I didn't know until you asked & I looked it up. Indeed, one of the active ingredients in the inhaler is a steroid. I'd been rinsing my mouth out after using it, but perhaps I wasn't being thorough enough. I'm pretty obsessively thorough now (including a bit of gargling), so maybe that's why I'm not getting the sore throat anymore.

Sometimes I can totally get away without rinsing at all, depending on a variety of factors including where I am in my cycle, what I've been eating lately, etc But other times I definitely can't. If you find your throat getting sore again you can try gargling with water that has a splash of apple cider vinegar in it (just a splash, though! not a lot or it will burn like crazy!) and that will help. Breathing is super important.
