So apparently, blue food coloring helps recovery from spinal cord injury in rats. The only side effect is that it turns the rats blue:

I've seen lots of photos of the blue rats by now, and they are adorable and I would want to nom their ears if they'd not recently had their spines broken, but I just noticed the apparently custom-engineered chin rests for injured ratties.
