(Copied with permission from the lovely laraemily and altered only to replace her personal SB experiences with mine.)

Swagbucks is essentially an on-line portal in which you can win digital dollars called Swagbucks for using their Google powered search engine, shopping at some of your favorite stores through their website, redeeming Swag "codes" and more! ( Read more... )

I think I'll have Ginny read this. I tried explaining this to her last night, and she wasn't getting it. Also, thanks for the tip about friending SB on fb!

Haha, when people say they don't get it I just tell them don't worry about it. Just use it to search and don't even think about it. Eventually they realize, hey, I can get something! =o)

Yeah, I told her to just do it and she'll get free stuff. She was more willing them. :)

I've been using SB for a while, but I still learned things! Thanks. I only have 66 Swagbucks, so maybe this will help me. :P

Thank laraemily for letting me copy this. =o)

Definitely don't give up! I signed Isaac up under me but there is no one signed up under him at all, and the only time we use his account is when I'm at work (so, 10 hours a week). He's gotten $20 in Amazon GCs and is 2/3 of the way to another!

I've never found anything from the facebook updates, all I see are "ask the Swag Gal something" and random stuff like that.

Yeah, I don't pay much attention to them, but it's a way, you know? Have you gotten enough to redeem for anything yet? If not, don't give up! It seems at first like it takes forever and then once you get something it seems to move faster. (And I'm talking about Isaac's account, which has no referrals.)

I have 143 now, enough for three Amazon gift cards. I was going to get an iTunes card, but most of the music I would want the boys already have on there computer :P So probably Amazon. Can you use several gift cards at a time on the site?

I sent Abby a link to sign up under me, they're wanting to get a Wii so I think it'd be cool if they used SB to get gift cards to help pay for games.

Oh, and I'm planning on getting my ears pierced Saturday :P

Yeah, if you go to your account (top right when you're on the Amazon page) you can click Apply a Gift Card to Your Account. Copy and paste the card # from Swagbucks there and you can do that as much as you want and then when you buy something your gift card balance is automatically subtracted from your cost.

It helps a lot when people are willing to join under you and help you win too. I'm getting nowhere fast, but maybe in ten years I'll have enough for a $5 gift card. Heh.

It certainly does help, but Isaac has no one signed up under him and he's gotten $20 in Amazon GCs and is 2/3 of the way to another. AND the only time we ever search on his account is when I'm at work (so, about 10 hours a week). So you absolutely can get the goodies on your own, but of course not as quickly.

Do you get a lot of emails from this site? Also it says it used your name for promotions...have you had that happen to you?

No. Actually, I haven't gotten any increase in spam from them or anyone else since signing up. When they say they use your name for promotions, I think they just mean like when you win a SB there's a little box on the side that says, "Bethany B., FL, just won 2 Swagbucks!" along with 3 other people's names written like that and how much they won. And then when you redeem for a prize there's a little box saying "Bethany B. just got a $5 Amazon.com gift card!" along with one other person's name and what they got. That's all that they've used my name for, and I don't mind that. There are a lot of Bethany B.s in the world. =o)

Yay! Thanks. Download the toolbar and use it whenever you search and you'll be surprised how the points add up. Isaac's account has no referrals and he's gotten $25 in Amazon gift cards. It's taken a while, but that's still $25 he wouldn't have had otherwise! If you can get referrals, the points add up even quicker. I know quite a few people who are saving up their points to pay for all their Christmas gifts this year. =o)
