Almost everyone says "Thank you" to the bus driver when they get off the bus.
It kinda amazes me. I've never really encountered that on a bus before.
It's nice.. but a little silly because you have to pay to get on the bus, and the bus driver is just doing his job. It's not like he is giving out a free ride.

it's still polite to thank people for doing their job and it can make them feel appreciated. you thank a retail clerk for handing you your change and that's their job. you thank a waitress for refilling your water and that's their job. or at least i do that. i don't always thank the busdriver though

ya, it's silly... I've heard some people in NYC and Chicago do that, not in China or HK though. I'd just wish the driver a good day/night.
