Drabbletag 5 Maggie and Michonne had never been really close. There had been other people they got along better, like Rick and Carl, Glenn and Beth … but there was one thing you could be sure of in this new world: Change was inevitable.
And so their relationship changed also since they lost their group. In the beginning they watched each other’s back, helped to survive, to avoid madness accompanying the loneliness. They didn’t talk unless it was about food, shelter or water.
And then came the cold, dark nights. They cherished the warmth of each other, the solace of the knowledge they both grieved for the lost ones they came to love. The eager, desperate clinging helped to soothe the pain.
It wasn’t until weeks later they started to talk during daytime, sharing unspoken feelings, understanding with just a broken smile.
With time came intimacy, secrets, whispered words of affection. And when they discovered another camp with other people, sitting around a campfire at night, eating, talking, laughing, they shared one look to know that they didn’t want to try and belong to them.
Entwining their fingers they turned their backs on the camp, remaining the duo they struggled to become.
