Andrea stands with her back against a corner, clutching her backpack to her chest. What a great way to start off in a new high school: facing a bunch of bullies.
“Come on, blondie, just give us what we want and we’ll leave you alone,” the taller girl says and grins down at her.
Andrea shakes her head.
The grin of the other one fades. “Fine. If this is the way you want it,” she starts, clenches a fist and gets ready to punch Andrea.
“Hey, leave her alone!” a firm voice interrupts them.
“This is none of your business,” the bully answers.
The speaker is a slender girl with skin as black as ebony, long dreadlocks held back by a bandana and a strong-willed expression on her face. With sure steps she positions herself in front of Andrea.
“I think it is now. You want trouble?”
It is obvious the appearance left an impression.
“Sheila, let’s go,” one of the leader’s friends whispers. “Michonne’s into martial arts. My sister goes to the same club as her. She’s the best in class.”
Sheila grits her teeth, hisses and turns around to prance off.
“You’re alright?”
Andrea releases a breath she wasn’t aware of holding and nods. “Yeah, thanks.”
“You’re new?”
“I’m Andrea. We just moved here,” she explains.
“Name’s Michonne. I’ll help you getting by around here.”
Andrea smiles and swallows some upcoming tears. “Thank you so much,” she whispers as Michonne returns the smile.
“No biggie. I hate bullies.”
