Drabbletag 5 - blood
Maggie’s hands are shaking after the latest assault of the undead. Her nerves are frayed and she doesn’t know how long she can live like this anymore. After losing Glenn and Bob she is alone with Sasha, and she knows that it is just a matter of time until Sasha will be gone, too.
She kneels down to wash her hands in the river, but halts in the motion.
Blood, everywhere is blood …
Maggie can’t take her eyes off of her hands, of her fingers and nails, all smeared with blood. Dark, foul blood and pieces of rotten, malodorous flesh …
She’s tired of fighting, of being brave and strong, and so she lets the heavy sobs shake her body, lets the whimpers escape her lips and cries for the pointlessness of her life, still staring at the blood.
“Shh, it’s okay,” she hears Sasha’s voice from far away, feels her arms around her, soothing warm, but also pointless.
“Come on, I’ll help you. It’s going to be alright.”
And not before Sasha washed all of the blood and the flesh from Maggie’s hands can she stop crying, return the hug and find new strength for another (pointless) day.
