I am convinced that the large majority of the population shares the same delusion, one in which they do much more to contribute than they actually do. If never again I hear the words that I am wasting my time by working for animals in my spare time, if never again I hear the words that I should be helping humans instead, it would be too soon

That is an obnoxious thing to hear. Fortunately, -you- obviously acknowledge that your priorities are important. I wish that the majority of other human chimps realized that reducing suffering in society, even if it's seemingly only directed towards those whom they oppress, is in their best interest also. They just don't realize it yet. ;]

I think they've convinced themselves that they are somehow reducing suffering. Maybe they think having ten kids is beneficial to society. who knows?
