Coming out from sleep was a slow process. It usually wasn't, but this morning it was. Slowly, slowly, rising out of deep murky depth filled with frights that couldn't see. When he opened his eyes, Ford didn't know at first what had happened. He was in his bed, early morning light was seeping into the room from behind the blinds, and he had Darcy's ( Read more... )

She woke as he barely stirred. Darcy had been a light sleeper her whole life but now she was even more alert to Ford in particular. Her night had been full of repeated visions of her hands on a woman's face as she snapped her neck. It was terrifying and yet she knew she had to. She hated herself for it even if it saved him. "Ford, stop!" she tried to brace him. He fell back to the bed. She wasn't as strong as usual but she had faired better than expected. Darcy swallowed hard and watched him. She should have realize he'd wake up swinging. Vulnerability was not a fun feeling for him.

"Do you remember what happened?" she asked softly.

"Ngh... Wish I didn't." Frustration and annoyance. Yeah, that was probably about right. And no, he didn't not enjoy being vulnerable. Weak. Because he hardly ever had.

He glared up at Darcy. She wasn't exactly helping, was she? Holding him down instead of helping him up.

"Lemme up. Nature's callin'."
