So this picspam is an entry for the latest challenge at
picspammy. The challenge was we have to picspam something we've never done before. And since this is like...my third time doing a picspam, my options are very big! But i didn't want to do a picspam on something that's already been picspamed before. I mean, at first i wanted to do a picspam of Barney Stinson (cause he's awesome!!!) but there's already been alot of picspam of Barney and How I Met Your Mother in general. So I decided to do a picspam of one of my favorite show, Better Off Ted, featuring my favorite character, Veronica Palmer! And it's perfect too, since I just downloaded the first season (season-nette if you will, since there are only 13 episodes)
I also decided to do a picspam on one specific episode, which is episode 1x11, Father Can you Hair Me? This is probably my favoirte episode out of the series so far, because in this episode you get a glimpse of Veronica's life. Not like her secred identity in 1x13, but like her past with her family. And it kind of gives you a clue as to how she turned out into such a competetive, work driven woman. Also, this episode is very funny (not that every other episode isn't funny) But I specially love how the way they portrayed the awkwardness between father & daughter because it's just hilarious!
So this picspam is not only about Veronica Palmer, but it also features the relationship she has with her father. (for those of you who don't know me, i'm a sucker for father/daughter stuff) I'm also gonna be putting some of my input in the scene and me over-analyzing things, because since the beginning of this series, I always wonder about the backstory of Veronica, like if she's still in contact with her parents (cause we already know that she stays in contact with her sister and grandmother)
Veridian Dynamics. We're working hard to make your life better.
But our competitor, Digivation, wants to ruin your life.
Since Digivation was founded 50 years ago, millions have died.
Millions more have become sad. What's your problem Digivation?
Veridian Dynamics. Good. Digivation. Bad.
Ted: Veronica, quick question.
Veronica: What is it with everyone and their questions this morning? Where'd you learn to drive?
Will you marry me? Why would you say that to my baby?
ok, so there's really no point in this part apart from the fact that the line is very hilarious! It's so like Veronica
to just roll her eyes at those questions...and sadly she would say something rather rude to a baby LOL
Veronica: Ooh, flowers.
Ted: Look at you, having a girly moment.
Veronica: *after reading the card* Crap on a cracker!
(I just love how she doesn't curse LOL I know its because of censoriship and stuff but still)
Ted: And she's back.
Veronica: They're from my stinking father.
VO!Ted: I should explain, Veronica and her dad don't have, what you call,
a traditional father/daughter relationship. Veronica's Father is Elijah Palmer,
CEO of Digivation Industries, one of our company's main rivals.
Veronica and her dad are extremely competetive, and have a history of stealing
products from each other's company's. It's a little cat/mouse game they play,
instead of having a normal relationship. And everytime one of them steals an
idea from the other, the winner sends the loser a thank you gift *points to the flowers*
Linda: Did you guys hear? Digivation is coming out with a new weight-loss toothpaste.
Veronica: Damn it.
Linda: Aren't we developing something like that?
I kind of figured Veronica had a distant relationship with her father, but I was thinking
like...abandonment or something. Like he left the family back when she was a kid and only hears
from him once in a blue moon. I never thought that they were rivals, like LITERALLY.
Cause I know Veridian Dynamics is like...EVERYTHING to Veronica, so to have her father be the CEO
of their rival company is like WOW! Her family is screwed up more than I thought lol. And, what's
even worse, they steal ideas from each other! Now I definitely did not see that coming,
but It's totally smart on how they played that out in their father/daughter dynamic.
Corporate Intelligence: Our inside-eye in Digivation gave us a lead on their hot new project. Marine mamal communication,
it lets you talk to whales. The device-
Elijah: Doesn't work.
Veronica. Dad!
Elijah: Rather it does work, but it's useless. Whales are shallow twits. All they do is
gossip and spread rumors. It's like talking to teenage girls.
Veronica: Well you'd know all about that (and there's a hint as to what kind of a man
her father is) Gentlemen, please excuse us.
Veronica: Obviously that whale thing is a winner or you wouldn't be telling me it's a loser.
Elijah: Unless it's really a loser, and i'm pretending it's a loser to make you
think it's a winner.
Veronica: Or i'm pretending to think it's a winner when I actually know it's a loser because
you said it was a loser to make me think it was a winner.
Elijah: So, the student becomes the master.
Veronica: Or the student has always been the master but wanted the master to think the master
was the master when he was, actully, just a student.
(did you all get that by the way? Cause it really did take me a while to follow on what they're saying
LOL and btw, I practically got carpel tunnel syndrom trying to type up the captions!)
Elijah: These conversations is why your mother left us.
Veronica: That and the fact that you porked your way through my sorority.
And that is where Veronica got her smarts and wit from.
Of course it's from her father, otherwise she wouldn't be head of a company that's rival to the
company her fahter works for. Also, I always figured Veronica's parents were split, and the
reason was because her father ran off with another woman and started a family with her
(although that may be for one hour darama's and not for a thirty minute comedy) But it also
made sense that her father's a huge player and slept around with young girls.
Although, i'm quite confused, I though Veronica didn't finished school because she went
into modeling....unless I missed something. But eh, whatever. I love the banter she has with
her father. It's smart and quick, my kind of comedy.
Veronica: You came here to call a truce?
Elijah: Because I want things to be ok between us.
Veronica: You must be sittng on something huge. Something so big you can't stand for me
to steal it.
Elijah: There's something i need to tell you...
Linda: was that your dad? [...] why are you throwing him out of the building?
Veronica: He says he's dying.
LOL I just love how she's practically rolling her eyes at what her father said. Of course,
with the relationship she has had with her father, it's easy to see why she didn't believe
him when he said that, and the fact that he has an ulterior motive.
Linda: I know it's not my place to say anything, but my god what is wrong with you? [...]
You're father is dying and you throw him out of the building.
Veronica: Oh please, he's not dying-what is this? Dutch blend? I hate Dutch blend...and the
Dutch too, those people are lunatics with their wooden shoes and fatty sausages.
Linda: What about you're father?
Veronica: I don't know how he feels about the Dutch, Linda, you'll have to ask him yourself.
Linda: I mean, how do you know he's not dying?
Veronica: Because I know how the man works! He's after something, I just don't know what it is yet.
Do you know the Dutch celebrate Christmas by throwing fruit at each other? I read that once.
(Even though Veronica's mind is set on the fact that her father is pretty much likely to want something
from her, there is a small part in her that's thinking "OH MY GOD! what if it's true!" It kind of
shows by the way she's busying herself by talking about the Dutch instead of confronting that possibility)
Linda: But what if he really is dying? What if it's not a lie?
Veronica: It can't be true. People don't just...well, people do but...not my father.
I mean really it's just not in his nature to die....i have to check something.
(and finally, that suppressed thought is coming out, even though he doesn't want to believe it)
Elijah: Veronica, what are you doing here? And who is this man?
Veronica: This is my physician. Dr...something-burg.
Doctor: Rosenbob
Veronica: Dr. Rosenburg.
Doctor: Rosenbob.
Veronica: Don't argue with me, that's not why we're here.
(Seriously, it's such a typical Veronica thing to forget his name LOL)
Veronica: I need to confirm that you're full of crap, not tumorous. Well?
Doctor: He's telling the truth, i'd say he's got about a year left.
Veronica: What? That's impossible! Oh my god, my daddy's dying.
Elijah: Oh there, there. *the two hugs* At least you'll have something to talk
to your sister about besides her stupid babies....
So this is pretty much one of the first few times Veronica's ever shown any kind of emtion apart
from Satisfaction, happiness, and anything other than real emotion. Like, you can see she was
about to cry that her dad's really dying. She even called him daddy, which, in my little mind,
it meant she was probably going back to her childhood, when her father showed something other than a
businessman towards her and was really a father.
And it's funny how her sister probably turned out normal, whereas she turned into a cold-stone
business woman. I figured her sister probably lived with their mom, while Veronica inherited her
father's personality LOL
Veronica: You were right, my father really is dying. Congratulations cancer whisperer, you win.
Linda: Oh Veronica, i'm so sorry. *hugs her*
Veronica: It's ok Linda, you'll get through this.
Linda: *eyeroll* I know, i'm trying to support you!
Seriously, it's typical for Veronica to think that, when anytime someone tries to give affection
to her...she just doesn't see it. She's oblivious to it LOL And I also love how she's talking
to Linda about this. Of course, Linda was the one who pushed her to thinking that her father maybe
really is dying, but still.
Linda: Veronica, you need to spend time with him. Do father/daughter things that don't
involve stealing secrets. Instead steal his heart! Fill it with love and then
give it back. But not literally, that would be murder.
(I love how Linda had to add that in. And there probably is a 50/50 chance that
Veronica actually would do that LITERALLY, had Linda not cleared up that part.)
Veronica: Maybe you're right. I should connect with him before it's too late.
Luckily, I've always done my best work under deadlines.
Linda's expression after that was just priceless LMAO
VO!Ted: Veronica set out to have the relationship with her father she never had.
At first it was a little confusing.
Confusing indeed LMAO Ok, they're little awkward start where they were sitting next
to each other, not knowing what to do, that was hilarious LOL and unfortunately for them
the "father/daughter" at the park they tried to mirror weren't exactly father/daughter LMAO
and the way they jumped apart when they saw the two making out, LOL..oh i love this show
VO!Ted: So they decided to do activities together.
I just find it hilarious how they were playing frisbee, seriously, it's funnier if
you watch it in motion! They both know that it's hopeless for them to actually play
some sort of "fun" activity that doesn't involve stealing idea's, but it's kind
of nice and amusing to see them try to bond, which, i think, itself is good enough bonding.
Also, seriously, after that kite thing...activities is so not them.
Ted: How are things with your father?
Veronica: Well we spend all of yesterday with each other but it never felt right.
Am i a horrible person? [...] What my father and I had worked for us, why am I
trying to change it?
Of course, this would be the part where Veronica is still skeptical of her father's
motives. Yes he may be dying (he really is) but that doesn't mean that he's gotten
over being a crook. So I don't really blame Veronica for it. And this is also one of my
favorite scenes cause it's one of the few scenes in this episode that has Ted and Veronica
interacting. Yes, I'm such a Ted/Veronica shipper in this show.
VO!Ted: Veronica realized what kind of relationship SHE wants with her father.
VO!Ted: But left it up to him to decide what kind of relationship he wanted with her.
And that is why Veronica is the master. She knew his intentions aren't really that genuin.
Really, Elijah should have been more smarter than that. Although, it was kind of
sweet that Veronica gave him one last hug before she left. It was like sort of a way
to feel like they were father/daughter before the harsh reality of what kind of a guy
her father is came to her.
VO!Ted: So they agreed to spend the remaining time they have together doing what they
enjoyed most.
Veronica: *reads card* -SCOFF- Send them back, with a dozen smilie face cookies.
He just blew millions of dollars developing a hair product that's technically a parasite.
And this is why I love Veronica Palmer.
WOW! It's actually finished! YAY! I know i've done ~some~ picspam's before, but this is like my first official picspam, at least one that's really like a real picspam. With caps and captions and everything. It was really fun to do, and it wasn't really as hard as I thought (of course this was an easy subject) The caps are taken by me, and PLEASE do not steal them or anything. I worked real hard in capping them, cropping and then colouring each and everyone of them.
And also, if you haven't seen this show yet, YOU SHOULD! It's very hilarious! It's smart, witty, and the actors on the show are just amazing! And I'm glad it'll be back for a second season, cause really, this is a hilarious show and I want it to be known out there just how hilarious it is And if you guys want to watch full episodes from this show, then click
here or
here. I'm not entirely sure if every episode from the first season is there, but really, every episode is hilarious!
