Chapter 9 -- Finding a Cure
Hankyung sat by the bed holding Heechul's hand tightly. The later was twitching on the sheets; his eyes looked like they were fluttering beneath his lids. "Heechul... please don't leave me again." He hadn't left his wife's side in two days.
The spread of the virus was slow and painful, like a deadly illness in a human. Yoochun had been working nonstop since it hit. He'd taken a sample of the virus and was breaking it down trying to figure out how it worked. Changmin went over every so often to check on his progress. "How's it going?" He asked.
Yoochun took his hat off and sighed. "Better than I was when you asked me an hour ago. This is unlike any virus I've seen before. I have managed to figure out that the virus only travels through the scanner, so any program that scans in is infected."
"So that's why no other programs have been infected." Changmin mused.
The Hatter nodded, "Now that I know how it's affecting the programs, I can break it down and write an anti-virus."
The Jack smiled, "How did you ever get so good at this?" It had been a rhetorical question, he wasn't expecting an answer.
"My dad," he responded simply. Yoochun had never brought up his family before. "When I was twelve, I was at a friend's house. When I came home, I found my parents and my little brother had been killed." Changmin looked at him, but didn't ask anymore.

The Hatter leaned back in his chair and sighed. It was about three hours later and he was half-way through another scan, this was difficult even for him. "Who would try and kill of programs? It's like they're playing God or something..." He paused. The strange behavior over the past few weeks, the secretiveness, all the pieces were falling together, and everything fit. But Yoochun couldn't believe what came out of it. "He wouldn't... He couldn't..." But that's what everything pointed to. Grumbling, he grabbed his coat and hat and stormed out.
He found Junsu on his way back to base. Yoochun grabbed his lover and slammed him against the alley wall, bringing a yelp of pain from the smaller one. "Why would you do this?" He asked in an icy tone.
The blonde gasped, "M-Mickey? What are you doing?"
The elder glared, "Don't play innocent with me, Xiah. Why? Why would you make a virus like this? Why would you kill innocent programs? They're only computer creations, yes. But they help people; if he hadn't been able to make Heechul into a program Hankyung would've probably killed himself from grief. What if someone had made a program of Junho? A program so you could see, hold, speak to your twin again?"
Junsu's eyes filled with tears. Yoochun's words stung him to the core. "I'm sorry..."
Yoochun sighed and hugged his lover close. "Just give me the anti-virus and I won't tell anyone it was you."
~~~~
Yoochun hurried into Heechul and Hankyung's room with his laptop. "Move." He ordered the programmer. Normally, Hankyung would've argued. However, this time he had a good feeling this was for a good reason. Yoochun took the elder's seat by the bed. He placed Heechul's hand on the scanner and loaded the anti-virus. Almost instantaneously, Heechul's ragged breathing slowed to stop then started up again normalized. Brown eyes opened and the program sat up.
"Heechul!" Hankyung beamed and hugged his wife. He sniffled and turned to the Hatter. "Thank you."
Yoochun nodded, gathered up his equipment, and left the couple in peace.
That night after everyone had gone to bed; Changmin snuck over to Yoochun's station and made a copy of the anti-virus. Taking the disk, he threw on his coat and slipped out of the base.
In the park, Changmin met up with his mysterious contact. "I brought the disk. Just tell Tablo to load it up like any other update."
Junki smiled, "Thank you, prince."
"I'm not a prince anymore."
A coy smile formed on the feminine man's face, "To me you still are."
~~~~
Back at the palace, Junki hurried into Tablo's lab. "I've got it." He handed the disk over and looked at the three cots where BoA, Siwon, and Jaejoong were laying. All three were even worse shape than Heechul had been because they had been infected longer.
"Thank you love." Tablo kissed his lover's cheek and loaded up the disk while Junki hooked up the three programs to the scanners.
Almost simultaneously, the programs stirred and their symptoms vanished.
BoA rubbed her eyes and looked around. "Are we okay now?" The tone of her voice held the fear of her young age.
"Yes you are sweetie," the Duchess smiled warmly.
Siwon moved over to her bed and hugged her. She had become like his baby sister and Jaejoong like his brother. Throughout this, he had been more worried about her and Jaejoong than he had about himself. Jaejoong also joined them on BoA's bed. "I guess we're going to have to get back to work, huh?" Siwon asked.
Tablo shook his head, "I'll tell the King that the anti-virus takes twenty-four hours to fully kill the virus and that you should still rest for that time, which you should."
He and Junki got the three back into bed and as the three fell back asleep, Junki sighed with a smile, "Crisis averted."
