On my way to work Friday morning, my truck shut down about a block from my house. My dad swapped vehicles with me and waited for AAA to tow it to a repair shop. StreetTech finally got around to working on it today, and according to them, the coolant is leaking into the intake and messing things up. The money you paid to buy it and the money you paid for past repairs are sunk costs and should not affect your decision.

The only question you should be asking here is whether you can get an equal or better car for less than what it would take to repair the current one (after proceeds from selling the current one).

If you're feeling really ambitious, you might want to estimate present values of future repair costs and figure those into the equation as well (is the current car likely to require additional expensive repairs in the near future?).
