Okay- so I might be repeating many many things that have been posted on here- but I need a bit of help regarding the penguin costume by Simplicity
( Read more... )
If you widen out the bottom of the flipper pattern it should be able to be modified into a sleeve shape. Actually, I don't know what your pattern looks like, so it might not work
I posted a kigu tutorial in this comm, and you can see the general shape I used for a sleeve. It also shows the shape of a hood that I used. If you do not want a shaped face, you can make it a flat rectangle (I think the pikachu kigus I have seen all have the flat rectangle face instead of a shaped face like the fox kigus)
The flipper-sleeves of the pattern DO have to be modified into true sleeves, just make sure that you give yourself enough length so the sleeves don't ride up once you bend your elbow. Its not hard at all to modify those sleeves, I did twice for 2 seperate kigus.
The hood is much harder, that one I had to figure out for myself. I HIGHLY recommend getting some cheap muslin/cotton fabric and make some mock-ups to work out your pattern adjustment with so you don't destroy your fleece. With the hood, I flattened out the area that bumps out for the penguin's beak on the pattern and just sewed the hood directly to the bodysuit. Its easier to say than do, though.
Okay. :D I'll take all that into consideration- so far all I have done is actually cutting the pattern out. ::laugh:: So when I go to do the sleeves I'll leave more room for it.
