Additionally are their any websites that cover ways to match some of the events to real world dates?

It's a bit hard to match the series to real world dates since it all takes place in manga time. The series ran from 1998 - September 2003 though, which makes sense to me with the technology shown (net cafes, etc) and approximately follows the given dates here: http://community.livejournal.com/hikarunogo/81499.html

I just realized that there's a very real chance that I might not finish this story idea in time or fit it into 5555 words...so I stared at the cliche list for about ten minutes and tried to think of a backup option. Now I have a backup story idea! But I still haven't written either.
