Interesting... we just got an icecream maker (which we used for pumpkin last night - freaking awesome! And I'm wondering if for vanilla icecream, or something really simple and unadorned, if the homemade makes a difference... I'll let you know (maybe!) If I get around to it!
I think it would make a difference. The Test Kitchen results seem to indicate that quality didn't matter so much for hot applications, but did for low or no heat recipes. Definitely report back if you try it! :)
