a long overdue example of how much i care about this stupid rock n roll.

I've been meaning to write this out for a long time now, but i've been lazy and still had a few records to get to from this past year before i could definitively put out a list. And before i get to it, i have a few honorable mentions that didn't make the list: Belle & Sebastian The Life Pursuit, Portastatic Be Still Please, Chin Up Chin Up This ( Read more... )

I love Margot! You didn't happen to attend their Dec 30th show in Indy did you?

Well, even if you aren't updating this thing anymore I figure this will probably get e-mailed to you. I had a huge craving for new music today so I bought half the albums on your list.

Hopefully, I won't have been led astray by your finely-tuned taste in music.

I don't think I will be.

wow, which ones?

the joanna newsom one, if you bought it, requires some work. i suggest being drunk. it's a quirky little girl with a harp. but it's adorable.

i also need a music favor from you, but i will describe that in a new paragraph since it ties directly into what i have to say now.

i've made a huge mistake.

i reinstalled WoW, and am right now thinking about getting the expansion for the stupidest reason i can think of. the blood elves' mounts are basically chocobos. but i don't want to play a blood elf, since i can't live without my undead ability to eat corpses, so instead i'd have to farm for ages to get materials to gain reputation with the elves, and after days of mind numbing grinding, i'd get to be a zombie riding a chocobo in a blizzard universe.

anyway, i need as much chocobo music as i can get if this ever happens. i'd totally name him Boco, and he'd be my friend and we'd go on adventures and he'd say Kweh at people and i could spend days racing him instead of stoping the impending apocalypse.

I picked up: Let's Get Out of this Country, The Dust of Retreat, the Neko Case album, The Crane Wife, and Boys and Girls in America. I figure that will give me a few albums to digest during the trip to work. After this, I'll look at the others.

If you're playing WoW, you might as well get the expansion. And if you do, I can forward you just about every Chocobo theme there is.

as for the others, go for the cat power first. you can find a slipcase edition for cheap (we have it at the store for 9 bucks, which doesn't happen for regular priced albums). it's jazzy and sad, and she's backed by al green's band, so there's a wonderful, classic soul sound. the thermals and mission of burma are loud punk, and band of horses is atmospheric, reverb heavy, and relaxing.

also, you'd appreciate the hold steady's previous album Separation Sunday. there are five trillion amazingly placed allusions to catholicism throughout the album. it's primarily about the characters in the Boys and Girls songs "First Night" and "Party Pit." If you pay attention to literary allusions in anything, you'll dig it.
