Actually, not all of these are recs. I just want to make a record...

The Chaos Code

Okay, so I really had a lot of fun with The Death Collector, so I started looking at what else the author has written. This is one of his recent books ( Read more... )

Riyuu (which might not get translated, for being 600+ pages in bunko) also has digressions on the problems of credit in modern society (along with real estate scams), but it works better than All She Was Worth (Kasha) I think, because the style of Riyuu is that of a reporter going back and interviewing everyone after the fact--a chapter given over to a lawyer who can then mouthpiece the societal issues Miyabe wants to talk about then fits into the style of the book without becoming an exposition break.

That one was a somewhat recent movie, which apparently transfers the writing style over to the screen.

R.P.G. (Shadow Family in English) was made into a TV movie too in 2003 or 2005 (I forget exactly when I saw the ad for it, I think 2003).

(Sorry, sort of a fan of Miyabe. XD Even if I get tired of her precocious and sensitive young male characters sometimes.)

No worries. I really dig her stuff, and like to learn more. I'm too lazy to work through her stuff in Japanese though, which means I'm missing out on a lot more of her work.

I wonder if they will publish Riyu...It is pretty famous. I heard the movie was pretty good.

Thanks for the info about RPG. I'll have to ask at the Japanese video store in Chinatown to see if they might have it. I thought the book was pretty good, although a little drier than her other work. (I haven't read Crossfire yet.)
