I can debate rape, I can debate religous belief in politics, but instead I will say that as a man, my opinion would fly too loose and lofty with the knowlege that I never can become pregnant. Seriously, let women only debate this and let's watch. Wow, ok, wow... I am at once impressed that you are willing to say "I don't have the biological equipment to get pregnant so I am not gonig to force my opinion on it" and a bit saddened that you think men have no say in this. But, well, that later is mostly just cuz biology says I am the one who can get pregnant, I'm the one who would carry a child to term, and there's no way for a man (scientifically speaking as of today) to share that burden, it's well, refreshing
( ... )
We had that same discussion. He said women have the uterus and he doesn't, so he has no say. I disagreed (funny we'd be on the opposites sides of this). It's very nice to hear a man say he should have no say in a woman's body, but I am torn about those poor men who really want the baby they helped create. I agree that you shouldn't force a woman to carry a baby to term that she doesn't want, but until science can make it so the baby can be "grown" and given to the man, there isn't a good answer here. I consider myself anti-abortion, but I don't think it should be illegal. I don't think I could ever do it and I would love if no one ever had to do it. Women who do it as birth control should suffer some sort of consequences, though. That's just ridiculous.
I don't think many people consider themselves "pro-abortion" - there are those who think it should be the woman's choice and those who think there shouldn't be a choice. And I dare say most folks ARE anti-abortion - either they want to reduce the numbers of people seeking them or want to outright ban it. I guess some folks didn't pay attention in class when they discussed prohibition ;)
But nail on the head there - as long as it's only my body and I can't transfer an embryo/fetus to another party and leave it behind...
I didn't mean anti-abortion as the opposite of pro-abortion - I meant it to say that I don't call it pro-choice or pro-life. I wish abortions didn't have to exist. I think they should only be used when really necessary (let's not get into who decides what's necessary or not because that's just a huge black hole of gray area and leads back to the pro-choice/pro-life debate).
That said, the person who claims to be "pro-abortion" might need to be analyzed and watched. That's a bit sick to consider yourself in favor of baby-killing. Pro-choice - that's a much better term.
