1.
Since the theme for this icon was backstage/behind the scenes, we'll start of this this cute crop of Raina from After School/Orange Caramel :3

I wanted the coloring of the icon to match the purple hues in her shirt, so I added a color fill later (#5d5e76) set to soft light at 100%. The icon was still a little too yellowy, so I added a photo filter layer and chose Cooling Filter (80), leaving the density at 25% and the 'preserve luminosity' box checked. This layer is left as it at 100%.

2.
Next, I used the polygon lasso tool and outlined the background, making sure to cut around the pieces of hair. Then I created a new color fill layer with #cd93d9 and left it one normal at 100% opacity. You should have something like this at this point :3

3.
I wanted to start adding the glowing effect, so I created a new color fill layer (#cd93d9), changed the layer setting to hard light, 100% opacity, then pressed control + i to invert the colors so I could see Raina again. Then, using a feather brush somewhere between 80px and 100px, I 'painted' over the false background we just added. Next, I added a gradient map (#cd93d9 left and #ffffff right) and set it to softlight.

4.
Right now, our icon is very pink and Raina's face is washed out, so I duplicated the base image, drug it to the top, and changed the layer setting to soft light. I decided I wanted to accent her hair, so I chose a hard brush at 3px then played around with the color picker, using the brush to create strokes from where I picked colors. This layer looks like this:

5.
It wasn't quite glowy enough for me, so I duplicated the hard light/feather brush layer from earlier, and I drug it to the top and dropped the opacity to 50%. Finally, I created a hue/saturation layer and bumped the saturation to +50. This was a little harsh, so I lowered the opacity to 75%.

Voilà! ^o^

1.
The theme for this icon was close crop, so I chose an image of the ever beautiful Nana from After School/Orange Caramel and cropped it as such :)

The image was a little hard to work with color-wise, so I created a brightness/contrast layer and had brightness at -40 and contrast at +35

2.
Similar to what we did in the Raina tutorial, use the polygon lasso and outline the background, creating a new color fill layer with #f1ff2b. Leave it on normal at 100% opacity.

3.
Next, we just have three textures: this one by tinebrella set to screen at 100%; this one by unknown (if your recognize it, let me know ^^) set to soft light at 75%; finally, this texture by ohfreckle set to screen at 100%.

Tada! \^o^/
