I feel like something warm

Nov 26, 2011 01:13

So I spent the day frying my brain with work and writing the angsty fic of doom. Now I really wish for a mug of hot chocolate... apropos of nothing. Here's something warm.

Tell me though, what are your favourite feelgood fics?

I has no links immediately due to being on my phone, but what are your feelings on Die Hard, the Avengers, XMFC and Good Omens as fandoms? :)

Hm, I'm not familiar with Good Omens, and the rest of them sound more like kick ass and take names? XD

LOL

Then my immediate FEEL GOOD rec is for you to go and pick up Good Omens by Neil Gaiman & Terry Pratchett and laugh along with the apocalypse :DDD

It's one of my favourite books <3

Die Hard Fic (all John/Matt)(I have to cheap out on summaries, because, you know, work, but these all made me giggle and/or melt :)

The Crack in the Door series by Basinstroke.

A Year in the Life by miss_pryss.
One year later, Matt takes John McClane out for a drink.

National Pastime by Dira Sudis
John takes Matt to a baseball game.

the Avengers (all Tony.Steve I think. Again, at work XD)

Degrees of Separation by plingo_kat
Oh god, what if Jarvis infected Dummy with, with emotions. Jesus Christ.

Ready, Fire, Aim by gyzym
Just hilarious. Tony gets used to being part of a team and there are feelings (gets angsty in places but the warm fuzzies balance it out. Best Tony voice EVER)

XMFC

Daycare Verse by brilligspoons and pocky_slash
Charles runs a mutant daycare, Erik is his long suffering Engineer boyfriend. :DD

New Beautiful Things Come by ( ... )

Oh dear, I'm gonna regret it.

If at all, I use Administration Series by Manna Francis to get away from things. It's not a feelgood world, which is the understatement of the year, but I love it and know it so well that it comforts me with its familiarity and just general amazingness.

But that's original fic, and speaking strictly fandom I like humour fics to pick me up. Being a snob, I stay clear of fluff ;-D

Yes, I imagined you would. :p

Thanks for the rec!

Well, the rec is on the condition that you like dystopian universes with impeccable word-building and strong bdsm theme, with the main pairing composed of a sociopath working for an authoritarian government and a pedantic and calculating CEO. They don't do fluff well.

I think the entire series is absolutely brilliant, but obviously not everyone's cup of tea. Available free online here or as paperbacks, which I have because I love it enough to actually spend money. It's the single best thing I came across through fandom.

Okay, got it, if I do read it and end up hating it, I won't come looking for you with a shotgun... ;)

Thanks again. :)

What is this "angsty fic of doom" of which you speak...? *perks up*

I have literally just come to the realisation that I don't have what one might call traditional 'feel good fics'. Angsty fics with happy endings are the best I can do. With one exception off the top of my head:

Practical Adventures and Auspicious Pursuits by stillane
It might be good to be the king, but some days it sucks to be the prince. (Arthur/Merlin)

I'm sure you'll find some lovely older Merlin fics in my memories. ;)

Oh, btw, have you read the Star Trek BigBang fic The Lotus Eaters? It's amazing. I can't praise it highly enough. (I left the author this really long, embarrassingly flaily comment. Hahaha!)

Oh, you'll probably hate me a lot when it gets done. Although, I do intend there to be a happy ending... >.<

Hahaha, I love that fic! The line about dead goats gets me every time. You can't do bad after that kind of line. :D

I haven't yet. There're a bunch of ST BB fics I haven't read yet, though bm'ed. Thanks for the rec, I'll be sure to check it out. ;)

I could never hate you for writing angst! YOU DO IT SO WELL. Which fandom is it for? I want to know what to look forward to. :D

Awww, had you read Practical Adventures before? Was hoping I'd given you something new. :3 But yeah, those first two lines are brilliant and from then on you just know that fic is gold.

Out of the ST:BB fics you've read, have you got a fave you can rec? I've not read em all yet.

Well... it contains A/G? Actually a lot of it is A/G before it becomes A/M. Sorry, but canon is driving me up the wall with this shit and I had to find a way to deal with it.

I did! But I read it again this morning after you linked it here, and had great fun all over again, so thanks, bb! :D

Um, I only actually read a couple. I read screamlet's... which might have been posted on RPF BB comm, now that I think of it. Just type her penname in AO3 search window, if you're interested. It's not really romantic, but it's very mature writing and hits a lot of the right spots.

You probably read lazulisong's BB? If you haven't, it's right up your alley.

I only read one other and hated it, despite it being by one of the fandom's most popular writers, so I won't rec it here. Actually, I have to say, K/S had a rather poor representation this BB. A lot of K/M and M/who-the-hell-are-these-people? Which, what's up with that, ST fandom? Shame on you.

I don't remember, did you sign up for Advent?

Excuse the ugly links- on phone for this. Couldn't resist a fic rec post though.
A rec specifically for you- http://st-xi-kink.livejournal.com/4532.html?thread=10685620#t10685620
So, for me, it's cats, sweaters and cliches that warm my heart.
