Wow... this was lovely and heartwrenching. And you had me in tears the whole time. I can feel their loneliness and their hopelessness. Not sure what will Merlin's decission be, but it doesn't seem he will choose his own happiness, will he?

And you know, I'm not above shamelessly begging for a sequel! This fic certainly deserves it!

But still, at least I have the comfort that even if it's "not in this life", they will find their way back to each other (have to love that reincarnation is canon!).

Gwen needs to escape with Lancelot, Arthur forgives them as he always do and then put merlin in the room next to him, and don't marry anyone!!

or the four of them could do a great talking about real intentions and live forever apart in the same castle so Merlin and Arthur and gwen and lancelot be together.

because Arthur, i know you don't believe me yet, but She always leave you for lancelot, because she doesn't love you really, she admired you or whatever but she will never love you
and in this series you have the amazing opportunity to find love in merlin (this never happens to you in any incarnation, book or movie or etc.) so please take him!!

i'm so tired to cry for you Arthur!, in all the books and the movies and the series and etc. and merlin do love you for real

Canon setting is so angsty by definition with so little hope for Merlin and Arthur that I find myself craving happy modern AUs like an insane person. Just to soothe the hurt.

This is beautiful. I love this mostly for Merlin's loneliness, and how Arthur seems to share it and just - it's lovely, and sad. I think I love Gwaine best in this, because even though he leaves with Elena, he never seems to forget about Merlin; he doesn't just disappear without keeping Merlin in mind. It's gorgeous.
