Lovely set-up, interesting development. Love McCoy cornering Spock about the grieving-or-not.
McCoy is right, Spock muses. He’s not grieving.
They can agonize each other so much because they understand each other so well at times... both men hiding behind walls - one of emotion, one of control - but both hiding.
The meld with Kirk and the planet and the emotional exchange is damn intense too, and quite a bit sad around the edges.
A man of integrity who only has three unconditionally happy memories scattered over the twenty-five years of his life.
Kirk is still looking at Spock as if waiting for something, expecting some kind of reaction to what he has revealed. He is waiting for something Spock cannot grant, and the regret Spock feels is sharp and consuming.
Thank you. This kind of emotional stuff is hard to figure out because it's Spock's POV, and he's confused as hell at this point about pretty much everything. D:

Indeed. Somehow I imagine McCoy isn't all that rich when it comes to happy memories, either. ):
I´m done. Oh, how I like Pechalat! She´s a charming OC. More Pechalat, please? Three months on their mission, and things are rough for Spock. I want to hug him... Excellent chapter. I won´t say more. :D
