N1 totally rules. :D And yes, Sarek is somewhat severe. At least for now. He has a reason, too.

Thanks for reading! ;)

Thank you! I'm glad my characterizations are making sense, because for me it's always a deal breaker. Yes, I must confess, I wasn't thinking only of TOS/Reboot when describing the XO position. TNG has leant heavily on this aspect, for one. It does make sense.

Thank you for reading!

“Good. Then trust me when I say that your problem is - you’re an overachiever. You’re very generous with accepting that everyone around you is doing their fair share, but your own work is never good enough for you.”

Could be speaking to me, sigh.

Absolutely adore your No1 in this fic, and how the moments of humor...

Number One takes him to the main entrance where her hover bike is parked, because clearly she doesn’t believe in ground rules of any kind and Academy Security probably have a good sense of self-preservation, too.

... mix with the serious moments, like your fabulous look at what being first officer really means.

It’s the shortest straw in the lot and you’ll always be the one who draws it. You’ll walk in shadows. When you do your job well, the crew will get the laurels. When the crew screws up, you’ll be the one to blame.

Great. I'll friend you now to keep an eye on your fic :)

Thank you very much! When it comes to TOS, I'm a very hard Pike/N1 shipper, and I guess I can't imagine a universe where she doesn't exist or isn't like the coolest of them all. *grins* I'm delighted you find her likable. ;)

*friends you back* ;)

Whoa! Another update! :)

Before people start hating on Sarek, consider: Sarek here is nervous and extremely defensive. What Sarek is saying to Spock is prolly what he hears or hears implied by other people. Remember, above all, Sarek is a politician, and he needs approval of a certain sort and infers Spock does too.

However, Spock needs the love that just underneath that criticism.

Number One is so correct- except for skipping to the Big Chair. But it's true, that thing about Command and Spock's own abilities, and it is interesting how that plays out in Reboot.

(Yes, Nero was heading to Earth, and Spock was indeed horribly compromised, but his initial decision WAS logical and correct- in order to save the Federation it would have been smart to join up with the other ships in Laurentian system. )

And yay to Pike for pressuring Spock to become First Officer, and yay to #1 to welcoming Spock in their rather domestic menage a trois!

I actually don't hate Sarek, which I know at this point might be hard to believe. I know why he did what he did. Spock thinks he has to be above reproach to be accepted, but that thought was put into his head by someone, guess who. Sarek doesn't hate his own son, of course. More than that, I'd say he loves him very deeply. That's why he wants Spock to be as impeccable in everything he does as possible and more -- so that no one will ever have an excuse to harm him. Dunno if I'm explaining it right. But that is essentially the idea. Had Spock taken the position with the VSA, his future would have been secured in Sarek's view. As it is -- it's not so much, is it?

LOL. N1 is correct for any captain in the fleet but one, but she can't in all honesty envision something like that just now. ;)

Thanks for reading! <3

I think that too Sarek prime and nu Sarek really loves his son!
But parents wanting their child to be happy and secure a lot of times make the wrong decision or are obtuse in their idea of happy and secure, because they use they own standars

and Sarek knows his son is brilliant so he wanted his son shining and kicking the council asses but in the vulcan way to shine... that's why they are in bad terms because their vision and their expectatives are real different.

Number one is great i would love to have her in the enterprise sometimes, but she really deserve her ship and all we suppose she get one after her serving with Pike!

I love her a lot, she is a rational and no emotional being too, but she feels deeply like Spock does...
I must be difficult for her to talk Spock about she wanting to settle down with Pike, She really is amazing specially because she accept the open trio without wanting to kill Pike or Spock, but she is tired of it and she wants Pike for herself and i think she deserve him, no one could understand Pike ever, they could be happy together...And Spock has his future life and Number one knows it, so it's difficult, but she knows Spock will be well without Pike.

I want the next so badly!!!

Well, it really goes like this. She loves Pike. She wants him to be happy. If he needs Spock in his life to be happy, she'd allow him to be there. That's her own brand of rationality, right there. It's not exactly human, but then neither is she, not entirely. And she and Spock are really two of a kind, kindred spirits. That's probably why she feels a kind of tenderness for him rather than jealousy.

And yes, she's a damn fine captain and totally deserves a ship of her own! :D
