Why does the furry fandom get so much flack and negative looks when events like this http://campcrucible.com/ exist? You don't hear much on these things

Because most furries seem to love going out and shoving their lifestyle down other people's throats. I guarantee you, if those people did the same thing, they'd get treated the same way furs do.

You've obviously never heard of folsom fair, or various pride events :P

Pride parades. Wonder why there's still much discrimination against homosexuals and the like? When they hold parades and crap, they're shoving it in front of everybodies faces. Perfect example to back up my point :P

There was probably more discrimination *before* pride parades even existed.

The fact remains I see far more gay pride stuff than 'BDSM' pride stuff and the like. Keep things to yourselves and you can't exactly take much flack for it, can you? Out of sight, out of mind? =] Lots of furries causing drama over the intertubes and omg irl and people are going to take notice of that.

Go to San Fransisco. They have plenty of open view kink stuff on the streets. Like I said, Folsom Fair >.

It's because they're upfront about it. Furries are all like "WTF WE DON'T LIKE SEX THIS IS TOTALLY NOT SEXUAL FUCK YOU GO AWAY FURSECUTION."

Thats the thing, some are sexual, some are not. The fandom has such a wide range of people in it for various reasons, its hard to label us as one type of thing.

It's also hard to label us as a "fandom" because we're not really fans of anything specific, but nobody's going to stop saying that any time soon.

My thinking is that people will look at furries and say "Hey look at the Furries! They're maladjusted weirdos that look silly in their funny costumes! They probably don't get much sex, so let's say derisive comments about them."

Then they will look at the BDSM/Ponyplay/Kink folks and say "Hey look at the leatherjockeys! They're maladjusted weirdos that look silly in their funny costumes! THEY PROBABLY GET WAY THE FUCK MORE SEX THAN I GET... so... um... waah waah waah." And then they turn back to the furries so they can feel superior again.

Those fucking bastards.

The only way to combat this is, of course, to HAVE WAY MORE FURRY FANDOM SEX.
