It's rare that the show really gets into the overwhelming personal loss every one of the refugees has suffered, simply because it is so overwhelming. But it is always there, even now when it happened 2-3 years ago.
That Kia most definitely does ... even if she doesn't directly admit it. ;)

I'm quite touched that Kia has developed a small group of fans. Creating her continues to be a surprising and very organic process. I know so much about her that hasn't come out in my writing, but she reveals new information only when she chooses. For example, though I knew from very early on that she lost adult children in the attacks, she's only recently started giving me more details about them.
