I got a "restored" Compaq/HP (i.e. clearance) laptop for $300 and free stuff (printer, wireless router, 1GB flash drive - with a $60 mail-in-rebate) from Staples this morning. LOL. Yay for being thrifty! It only has a 1GB of ram, but only for the time being ( Read more... )

Flash drives are brilliant little things, aren't they? Have you ever seen one of those real floppy discs? They were big and square and flexible.

I should ask you this too:

What's the best way of using the battery/power cord (i.e. at home)? Should I always have the power cord hooked up? The battery wears down after a while, right (to the point in which it has to be replaced)?

I read that somewhere too, where they say you shouldn't have it constantly plugged in to the outlet, or you should remove the battery before doing so (huge hassle). But i think the newer models don't have this problem anymore, once the battery is fully charged, it doesn't charge anymore.

another thing to be aware of is the connector to ur laptop from the outlet. when i first got my laptop, i disconnected it every night after use and i think after a while (~2yrs) it started to wearing out. so when i plugged it in, it wasn't connected and i had to wiggle it around for it to charge. After a while, i had to get the part inside the computer with the connector pins replaced which cost like $100, mostly the labour cost. Now i just unplug it from the oulet (i don't know why i didn't do that before..ughhh)

what's the warranty for refurbished models???
