Despite apparent substantial criminal activity throughout the seventies and eighties Dimick has served relatively little prison time due to lack of successful convictions. His role as a reliable and silent fast(?)soldier has also kept him out of the limelight in focus of law enforcement.
Dimick does not appear to have any of the destructive views as prevalent in his profession. There is little evidence of alcohol or drug abuse despite his upbringing. Possible early physical abuse by his now-deceased parents has been suggested, but subsequent interviews with (can't read from here)
-fellow officers on his birthday accompanied by a man with two 9mm auto pistols. The customary surprise of the party was augmented considerable when the gunman shot Dolenz in the back pointblank and opened fire on the stunned patrolmen. The end result of the twogun barrage was three dead, and six wounded, including civilians.
The assailant was never identified, but he used two 9mm automatic pistols and bore a resemblance to Lawrence Dimick. No charges were filed against any of the culprits due to lack of evidence and the corresponding absence of Officer Dolenz as a witness.
