*lol* I've always thought that was one of the biggest things I disliked about SG-verse, how everyone spoke English. :) At least in Farscape you knew that everyone was injected with nanites that translated for your brain, or good scifi literature that had obvious languages for obviously different races/planets. ST and SG share a lot more in common than the fact that the whole universe speaks one language except for 90% of Earth's countries. ;)
At least with SG-1 it was all Earth Language equivalents and they had some fun with Daniel's ability as a linguist a few episodes. *sighs* Heck, except for Zelenka's cursing they've never really explored the fact that the Atlantis expedition speaks and insane amount of languages! *rolls eyes* Silly writers! ^_~
*goes back to working on a fic with language difficulties, shared POVs, and alien biology lessons* Heheh ^_^
YES! Finally, teams that get non-English speaking worlds! I mean, I know why the show does everything on worlds that speak recognizable English (they've covered for it by claiming there's language subroutine in the 'Gate that makes it possible for everyone to understand things in their native language, and really, I get that it's hard to make up a language.) But it makes me happy to read about worlds where English is not the lingua franca.
*laughs* You'd love parts of Hushed and White With Snow then. ^_~ Trill's communication problems are about as drastic as the language barrier gets! *grin*
I have so much geek-love for SG-1 where they used Daniel's linguistic skills as the focus of the episodes. I know it's not very TV-friendly to have half the cast babbling in gibberish, but they were so much fun! ^_^
