You're absolutely right about a boycott not working. And although it sucks that gas is so expensive here, it's more expensive other places as well. And maybe if gas is $5 a gallon, then people will either accept that they'll have to pay a premium for the PRIVILEGE (not the right) to drive a car, or they will start actually using mass transit or walking or biking, or start really pressuring their politicians to make changes and FIND NEW SOURCES OF SUSTAINABLE ENERGY. So rather than complaining about the cost, people should be channeling that energy into changing things.
If everyone carpooled or took the bus or rode bikes for a YEAR, yeah, *maybe* it would do something. I agree with you that what you don't buy tomorrow you'll still buy the next day.
And people also need to remember something called FREEDOM. If you don't want to join the boycott FOR WHATEVER REASON, that's your right!
ITA, and I love how some people just think of the situation so ... illogically, you know? It's just like you said, unless there's some huge American movement where people refuse to buy gas for an extended period of time or people get together in order to actually DO something about the rising gas costs, nothing is going to happen. The end.
