What to do?

I'm new. I've lurked for ages, and am now actually posting something. I'm probably inordinately proud of this fact.

The problem is that we tried that. I told her I didn't like AkuDemy, and when I said that it wasn't that good, and maybe some things could be changed, she had a freak-out. And told me that 'I can write their personalities however I want.' And that was after she asked for CC.

More of the problem is that KH tends to be the only thing we can really talk about, and it's a vicious cycle. But I'll try ignoring it until it rears it's ugly head again. Which will probably end up being my fault, with my lack of social graces.

Unless they asked you to, or you're their beta, picking out all the little mistakes is kind of douchey no matter how shitty their story is. If you feel bad about it, just don't do it? "Constructive criticism" of really bad stories already come off like flames in the first place because there isn't exactly much to praise about them.

She asked me to beta it, then started ranting at me. I know I was probably too blunt, but I still wasn't quite expecting her to freak out on me there.

Yeah. *adds to 'Notes on How to Leave Better CC.'*

As the others have said, don't leave it unless you were asked to ask a beta or otherwise. Don't feel obligated. I could feel my expression changing as I read through the description of that fanfic and it wasn't pleasant. ^^;

Really, if you want to-- ask her what setting this is supposed to be in. Like "So, I saw your fanfic was a bit different from the usual setting. What sort of AU is this supposed to be, what are the ages?" You can clarify before you leave feedback.

I did. She said, 'It's Demyx's first year in the Organization!'
"So, um, why is Vexen being all... buddy-buddy with him?"
"It's Demyx's first year! He's still socializing!"
"Oh, ok." Mentally: But, but, but, Vexen! A-and Demyx! Does not compute!

That's... interesting. *perplexed* I wish you the best of luck.

Yes. Then I asked her why Zexion was teaching poetry. And with what class. And why Vexen and Saïx were BFFs. She said that 'she was writing them with the personalities she wanted.' I cyber-gaped at her.

It sounds painful.

That said, never having played the games is a pretty good excuse for not reading/beta-ing it!

... Good point. And the first time she showed it to me, I told her as much. She said that it didn't matter and it was more of a 'oh, just look it over and tell me if you see any obvious errors.' I mistakenly assumed this meant I could mark them out. As soon as I pulled out a pen (and commented on her ellipses, because you don't need seventy-million dots), she said 'stop going all teacher's daughter on me.' At which point I facepalmed.
And promptly told me to stop trying to help. Because, really, it's just fanfiction, it's not like the quality matters or anything.

Not sure if you're being sarcastic with your last statement or not. ;) But sure, doesn't matter... unless you want someone to read and enjoy it that is. :P

Sounds like she doesn't actually want your help, she just wants a pat on the back or something. Don't bother making the effort if she doesn't appreciate it!

I am. Totally. Just don't try with her anymore. Same thing happened when we asked if she wanted us to teach her to draw, after she admired our work. She said no.

Soooo... she asks you to beta, and then gets upset when you actually do it? What? /blinks

Yes. I know I was probably too blunt (I'm like a rusty nail), and too harsh. Maybe. Part of it is that she's pretty sheltered, and takes everything pretty personally. You should have seen her when I told her that maybe she should change one sentence in her XV-member!OC story. It was something like 'She graced Demyx's ears with the sound of her playing.' I said that maybe she should change it to something a bit less... Sue-ish. I thought she was going to punch me or something.
