...okay, I think I failed utterly at getting my intent across.
I'm not saying Aqua should be immune to pervy fans or anything, because none of the characters is (Rule 34 and all).
I just think it's really uncomfortable and out-of-character when the objectification is forced on Aqua by characters in the work itself, and Aqua is portrayed as perfectly okay with it.
Because, y'know, if she was going to do that kind of thing, she'd do it on her own terms.
I'm for anti-OOC but the way you've phrased this is seriously off sounding.
Personally, I have no context, so I can't judge much. Right off the bat I'm very put off by the seeming 'ick, character X is old, so this is creepy' sentiment expressed.
I'll let you have the benefit of the doubt on the objectification but I since I have been in some horrendously stupid and misogynistic arguments about how it's not 'okay' for women to enjoy bondage, not 'okay' for an powerful woman to enjoy being a sub and how very objectifying it is for a woman to be photographed/drawn in the mere vicinity of rope/leather this past fortnight and I would be required to stab you in the face if any part of this is rooted in that.
Since I still have no context I can't really say much, so the question is 'what specifically is she being portrayed as okay with?' If you just keep saying objectification I am just going to choose to read that as the literal interpretation kink.
...yeah, writing while annoyed seems to result in implying things I really don't mean. o_0;
I totally didn't intend to say "it's creepy because he's old." XD; I meant "creepy old man" as a reference to a character type.
And, no, it has nothing to do with bondage. Not my thing, but, hey, if everyone involved is fine with it, it's not really hurting anyone.
Let's see if I can actually gather my thoughts properly this time:
The Dirty Old Man character type only works as a joke because he's essentially powerless. If you put Aqua at the mercy of one, unresisting, it's not funny. If you play it as a joke anyway and express a desire to be the Dirty Old Man character, there's something messed up there.
It kind of ends up feeling like they're trying to "cut Aqua down to size," somehow (since throwing the same nonsense that the other female characters face at her just doesn't work). =/
