The 'Official' Kingdom Hearts Mary Sue Litmus Test

Aug 01, 2008 19:47

Once upon a time in 2003, I received permission to make the 'official' KH Mary Sue Litmus Test. And I spent a decent amount of time working on it, but by then there was new canon and I kept putting it off until the new canon was out... until pretty much there was no point and I stuffed it into an 'ignore' folder on my computer ( Read more... )

Sooo, I kind of love you right now. Because this is exactly what I need. Time to test out those OCs of mine and see what kind of diseases I'm planning to polute the fandom with.

*raises hand meekly*

what if we hit sue status just taking the test as our normal, every day regular boring selves? :/

Considering I have a registry for my upcoming (as in next week, wow!) to Ansem Seeker of Darkness, I likely also qualify.

It does seem to be pretty harsh, but that's because it's never seen the light of day before now and has never had a character (or human) run through it.

*shrug* I just thought I'd post it for fun.

upcoming wedding. The bad coding, it eats the words. ^^;

Though I have no idea how any character could ever have better taste in music than I do. ~_^

Mm, I just ran through a character that's meant to hit a lot of this stuff, and she only gets a 18, and that's counting a lot of questions she doesn't properly fit. (The character does chose a name, but not because she lost her old one; the title contains the same word as her name's meaning but neither her actual name nor a description of her; she's not religious making her technically follow my religious beliefs; she has better taste in videogames than me; she's more bitchy than snarky; and she "just knows things" for a reason - without that, she only scores a six.)

Some of the questions could stand to be a bit broader.

Er, so this was an unfinished project I posted for fun. ^^; I'm aware it has flaws as this is the first time it's left my harddrive (I think) to have characters run through it. Do you have any specific suggestions?

Well, like I said, some could be broader. The average sue author isn't going to count questions that give an out, even if the general point is true for their character. For example, picking a name under any circumstances tends to be sueish - "because s/he "lost their old one"" is also sueish, but as you've got it now, only characters who do the second half have it count. Stuff like that would be better suited as a subcategory - add an extra point if it's because s/he "lost their old one" or something like that. Ditto for the bit about taste in music - shared taste isn't on here (the pepperjack cheese issue), just better taste, and it's only in music, when it often crops up with things like books as well. (If music is a particular problem, that might be another to work under a subcategory, where an extra point is given if it's music involved). Beliefs in general works better than just religion (left/right political rants, soliloquies on why Eating Meat is Wrong, etc are just as annoying). And, especially in fandoms like KH that are ( ... )

Thanks. I'll hang onto this in case anyone ever wants to work on this project again.

Oooh, very nice test.
My char Sanx scored 14, mainly because he's the Nobody of a failed keyblade wielder[who had a very unremarkable childhood], though. I only ever wrote one story about him[and I have not polluted the internet with that, ick, my creepy writing] XD, he's more of an RPchar.
If anyone has any doubts about the name; Saïx was not yet known when I made him, and someone else suggested the name to me, and I couldn't bear changing it o-o;...it's pronounced really differently, so eh XD.

The test itself, seems fine and accurate enough, to me.
