How common are reviews like this?

A back-story on this rant: I've started writing this Kingdom Hearts (obviously) fan fiction on my alternate account on fanfiction.net. It's fairly heavy on angst and serious subjects. I'm doing my best not to muck up characterization, or use clichés. The summary explicitly sates "No pairings".

So guess what a reviewer says after a scene with Axel ( Read more... )

reviews, akuroku, fanbrats

I have a somewhat similar problem with reviewers, but on the other end of the argument: they'll review a story and say "I like it that you have X and Y together." Okaaaaaaaay, so is the pairing the only thing you even care about in a story? Sadly, if one is to judge by the Pit, the answer is probably yes.

For many AkuRoku shippers, no, Axel and Roxas (or insert Male Character X and Male Character Y) can't have a close relationship without sexing each other up. (Though apparently, by that logic, all groups of male friends MUST be having orgies. .....Oh god please no.) And people will often click on something and not even bother to read the part that explains, "Hey, y'know, this isn't gonna be chock-full of all your little pairings!" (They often don't read explanations at all; I have a discontinued story that has been labeled as such, and I still get petulant demands to update.)

This reminds me of the reviewers who always ask my sister to update her one-shots. *twitch* It annoys her which means she bitches at me. *sigh*

That sort of thing really ticks me off. Maybe I'm a rarity, but I used to have a kind of reviewing inferiority complex. Like if I thought a fic was really well written, or I just generally liked it, even if I thought of something that could be changed I wouldn't say so because I just felt inferior to the author's greatness. And now people are all like "I like it! Moar geh plz!" (Not that I have any problem with "more gay," mind you. But it's just not always necessary.)

...Then again, I had a huge inferiority complex toward people in general when I started writing fanfiction back in middle school. And look at middle school kids nowadays. No respect.I think it is rooted in the impetuous-ness (too lazy to look up the actual word) of youth. Because I definitely did some dumb things as a 13-year-old fanbrat, inferiority complex or no. (Of course, that's assuming that all of the fanbrats ( ... )

Uggh, same here. ): And they're usually by idiots. I mean, when it says 'Complete,' it means, complete. The end.

And then when they ask for sequels... o.x;

One = one. I think we learned that in, what, first grade?

I'm pretty damn sure that if you were in an institution for having psychological problems, and wasn't better yet, you wouldn't be interested in starting a relationship with your roommate. *plotbunny wilts* DAMMIT! >.< *le sigh* at least I can get back to writing that crossover parody thing, the epic Kairi adventure fic, the Nazi AU, many assorted oneshots and learning how to draw. So.... Thanks?

My sympathies. I have a problem with any review at all which 'suggests' how you should write. That's what betas are for. If you wanted con-crit, I'm sure you would have asked for it. Hell- I don't think it's even constructive to say 'SHIP THEM' in a review- for all the reasons you stated above. If you'd wanted to slash them, you would have done it.

May I have a link? I like frienship fic. ^^

I completely relate.

Awhile back when I was just starting my Silent Hill/Kingdom Hearts crossover featuring Marluxia, Saix, and Demyx, I had a review that asked me when they were going to have sex.

I had to pause. And stare.

Logically speaking, they'll probably not want to do each other while they're running and screaming from monsters. Especially when they have no powers at the time.

I mean, by all means; ship whatever the fuck you want while I'm writing. People have developed interesting OTPs while I write (and in turn, so have I), but I'm not going to pull shit like that.

I had much the same reaction. XD

I am totally holding out for more hot PH/Saix or PH/Vexen rape lovin'! See?! See!? Saix might have sex- just not with Demyx or Marluxia! XDD

XD

Honestly, there's too many pairings I like now in this fic, but the only "canon" one I've presented is Walter/Saix and a bit of PH/Saix.

INSANITY.
