I've noticed fanfic isn't the only thing to be ranted on here. So my opening rant is a fan art rant ( Read more... )

Was it of the one where he's standing on the shore in either game? That's a popular one to trace XD

There were a lot of those. Plus a few others, but mostly those. Funny thing is, a couple of them showed good technique in the coloring, but they're still traces or copies, which is against dA policy. Still, most of them were brain breaking bad.

Augh, I hate people who do and post it in their art gallery. I copy art sometimes, but that's to practice so I can familiarize myself with a character, and I keep it at home for myself. You don't take someone else's art and try to pass it off as something of your own! That's just wrong. *fumes*

deviantart. Home of the bad pencil traces of official art. =(

Doesn't matter the fandom, either.

Some of the worst ones are the Sonic the Hedgehog ones, but there aren't quite as many an I found for Sora.

Bah - I hate it when people do that. Even I can trace and I'm awful at drawing!

Blah, I hate tracing. It's good to practice if you need it, but you shouldn't post it like you actually made it.

I still remember seeing something on a Sonic forum I went to. This guy, he traced an official pic of Sonic and added onto it so that it was his own character. (It wasn't a sprite, either, it was a hand-drawn pic) Somebody told him when he showed it to them in real life that it wasn't real art, and he went off on a tantrum on the forum saying that traced art was just as good. The worst part? People were agreeing with him.

People agreed with him? o_O *headdesk* I used to trace to get familiar with the characters. It helped. But I never claimed it as mine.
