I dunno, but our laws of Physics definitely can't apply. I mean, even ignoring the idea of gravity...just look at the shape of the worlds. Definitely not your conventional planets. :x
Yeah, I sort of thought that too except it's displayed that way eeeverywhere. On the map AND when you arrive at your destination while navigating there in the first game, so I dunno. :x
Whatever angle you look at it from, I think you have to incorporate magic or something since I don't see it working otherwise. XD
My guess is that each world is distanced far apart enough. However, the gummi ship enters portals that are like a "shortcut" through actual space travel. However, there's a danger in these portals, being that Heartless are COMIN' UP THE HELL RIGHT NOW and such.
I think that's what I was thinking when I first played KH. XD
I assume they are actually really far apart considering when they see stars going out... they are stars. That would indicate distance. Plus it probably actually takes more than thirty second to travel. Though I don't think the gummi ship is moving in normal space - probably like another person said, they are taking some sort of shortcut and they aren't traveling through real space at all.
What I mean is, it can't really be actual interstellar distances without some sort of shortcut. Because that would take months to years to get from one place to another- and it doesn't look like it was that long in the game (although yes, definitely more than thirty seconds XD)
... everyone's pointing out what I should have seen anyway, huh. XD
Anyway. My theory is that they move through something like wormholes, except they're actually darkness... portal... things. Because Heartless reached Destiny Islands once it was "tied to the darkness," right? I always saw the Gummi routes as those "ties" of darkness, which Heartless usually use but apparently anyone can travel through with the right equipment. So, it's not like they're traveling through empty space. They're traveling through darkness.
Of course, then you'd think that once Sora sealed a world's keyhole you couldn't reach it any more. But then again you'd think that Heartless would stop popping up, which they don't except in Mickey's Castle which doesn't count, so I think that's an ignorable plothole. :P
Hmm... maybe the routes through the darkness were there before Xehanort and Co. started manufacturing Heartless, so there weren't enough Heartless to actually invade the worlds? :D

... You're right, it doesn't make sense. XD

Problem is, in this AU it's necessary for them to already have been traveling worlds for a while before the Heartless come into play. :/
I actually had a similar idea for how the in-game warp holes worked. :O I could work with that...
