How much of the stuff you have (music, books, comics, films, TV shows, RPGs etc; not clothes, a bed, a house, a car, etc.) is physical and how much is virtual, as digital information ( Read more... )

I feel much the same way.

I can't see me carrying around books in physical form if I can avoid it now. So I'm slowly getting used to the idea that when I next move I'll ditch all of the books I don't have a strong emotional attachment to (the early Pratchetts will probably be the hardest choice).

Comics I still like in paper form - If I had a tablet with a 12" screen then I'd be more tempted to ditch them, but as it is the image quality and readability isn't as good.

I haven't listened to a physical CD in years. Blu-Rays I have a few of, for things worth owning in high resolution. I own some DVDs, but they rarely get used, as TV series are just handier to own in digital format - I can play them whichever room I'm in without having to go find the disk.

One thing I've found interesting in stopping clinging to things is playing the old Microprose Magic the Gathering game with the fan add ons. Basically it's Magic 4th edition but with 1800 more cards, some of which have new abilities, and where you can construct a deck without the expense of purchasing the rare cards.

How do you find Spotify for more obscure music by an artist?

I'm lucky enough to have largely mainstream taste. But I also have a lot of ripped MP3s from my own collection (still sitting in those boxes) and if there's something I want then I buy it from Amazon MP3 (or equivalent), not that that happens very often.

It's free to use Spotify (although you'll have ads), so you can give it a go and see what you think.
