Christmas in London was supposed to be relaxing, full of pantomines, sightseeing, and good cheer. It wasn't supposed be full of chaos in the streets and aliens running around trying to kill people. From the resigned attitude of the locals, Veronica was getting the distinct impression that something along these lines was an annual occurrence, and she wished that somebody had thought to write something to warn potential tourists of this fact. She might have come anyways, but at least she would have been prepared for this.

Veronica ducked into an alley and flattened herself against the wall as a group of panicked humans ran past her, chased by the same aliens that had arrived demanding hosts for their offspring in the form of fresh corpses. Veronica didn't know why they chose London, but she would have rather they skipped the holiday visit this year. She had no intention of getting killed by an alien and being used for grub food.

Veronica backed further into the alley, trying to escape notice when a strange whirring noise filled her ears. Turning around, she bit back a gasp at the sight of a blue box slowly materializing in the space behind her. As soon as it was fully there, the door opened and a head poked out.

"Looks like I'm a bit late to the party," he muttered, stepping outside the box and adjusting his bow tie. "Oh well, work to do, world to save, what else is new?" He turned around and spotted Veronica staring at him in confusion.

"Hello," he greeted her cheerfully, shoving his hands in his pants pockets. "I'm the Doctor. And who are you?"

"Veronica," she answered simply, wondering what his deal was. "And just 'the Doctor'? Nothing else, like a helpful last name?"

"Nope, I am the Doctor. The Doctor is me," the man answered, bouncing slightly on his feet. Just then, a group of aliens began to gather at the mouth of the alley and gestured at the pair. "So, nice to meet you, Veronica. Get ready to run!"
