The single most helpful piece of advice I can give re: Yuletide is that optional details are optional. Your Yulegoat is required to write you a fic in one of the canons you want, featuring all the characters you've asked for (unless you specifically say in your prompt details that they can pick and choose among character requests). By the same token, everything you sign up to write could well be your assignment, so offering Harry, Draco, Hermione and Ron could mean you get assigned someone who's asking for Draco/Hermione or Ron gen as easily as you could be assigned H/D. If you're still working on your Yulegoat letter when sign-ups close, post a placeholder notice in your journal and link to that on the DYW post so your letter gets included in the letters spreadsheet (just say when you link that the letter is forthcoming). Which is awesome, because then maybe people who are not your assigned Yulegoat will see your prompts of awesomesauce and write you treats.
