Author's Notes: This was written as a prequel to Sounds, Lines, and Meaning (a 3 drabble series), but can be read as a standalone if you'd prefer. I know I promised less angst than the untitled drabbles the other day, but... Well, it's certainly not *as* angsty. There's hope! Of sorts (considerably moreso if you go the prequel route).
Promises
He peers in from the doorway. The broken form on the bed doesn't move, but Draco tells himself that somehow, Harry knows he's there.
He sets his jaw against the doubts and fears, the ones that whisper in his ear that this is where it ends--that everything good is now gone. The smells of antiseptics and potions are overwhelming, but he forces himself to Harry's bedside, lacing his narrow fingers through limp ones, careful not to jostle.
Harry once promised he'd never give up, no matter how hopeless things looked. Now it's Draco's turn to make the same vow.
