Perfume
Breathing deeply, he recognises the scents, ghosts of better times.
First it was knit jumpers, school-issue soap, chocolate frogs, Quidditch leathers, and ink on fresh parchment.
Later, it was sweat, campfire smoke, blood, and fear. And above those, determination.
Then it was broom wax, laundry soap, warm skin, stale coffee, and sex.
He's gone, but the perfume still lingers, almost vivid enough to believe that he'll be home soon. It's been a month. A month during which he's forgotten what they've argued about.
With the memories deep in his lungs, he knocks. He hopes his 'sorry' isn't too late.
