Interesting thought! I know that there are several experiments where just the image of eyes posted on a wall was enough to modify behavior (off the top of my head: humans, chickens, pinyon jays, cats). In fact, the studies show such a marked change in human behavior (clipart eyes on a wall prevent theft), they put mosaic eyes as the art in the new world trade center subway station (presumably to prevent terrorist attempts in the subway??)
As far as tracking-movement studies go, I know that animals that do not respond to video stimuli usually DID respond to video stimuli if the motion of the dot/box/whatever was based off of real movement patterns, mapped from video of birds moving around in the wild.
