I'm finding a mini-streak of posts on my friendslist abut mistaken impressions and misconceptions interesting. Some time ago I wrote a similar post, about things people thought about me that were incorrect - that I'm about five years older than I am, that I'm vegetarian and that I'm not Scottish, seem to be the main ones. I don't think those have ( Read more... )

My fault, sorry! I didn't know you then, so I never saw this post.

People don't think you're Scottish?? Weeeeeird. Or, more likely, unobservant.

There's really nothing to apologise for. I thought your post was interesting.

Almost no-one immediately susses that I'm from Scotland unless I explicitly tell them so or it's in an obvious context. I'm not really surprised by it any more.

Thank you.

I just don't really get why - I mean, you *sound* Scottish to me.

Also, people often think is that I'm much younger than I am. I'm not sure which is the most annoying, because I expect only a minority of people get both.

Thank you. I'd be interested to see what yours are, when you get round to it.

You're not the first, but that is still really funny! I prefer people not to use my real name on lj. I do also think it's funny when I use my Penny Dreadful email address to ask for something on Freecycle and the person inevitably emails back 'Dear Penny' even when I've signed it with my real name.

I think I had a pretty good idea of you from your blog(s).

I think I did pretty much assume that you were probably a vegetarian (or at least was mildly surprised to find out that you weren't).

Oh and I did think you would be physically bigger (both taller and broader).

Interesting.

I didn't expect you to be quite as lovely and affectionate, and queer-presenting, as came across in person. (I'm trying to find a way to phrase that that sounds nice, rather than critical. Obviously I expected you to be fab, but didn't realise quite how soppy you and parallelgirl are together. Aaww!)

I'm intreagued by what you mean when you say queer presenting. I don't think I present as queer much if at all (i'm not upset by that just interested).

I suppose it was more your high level of comfort/security when talking about sexuality stuff with P_G, and the way she kept telling you how gay you were.

I probably thought you were a couple of years older than you are, and have only just noticed that's not the case!

And people usually think I'm several years younger, which is fine with me. Sometimes people still assume I'm American. Beyond that, their perceptions are probably accurate enough.

Duh. Actually they make a whole load of assumptions about my name. ALL THE TIME.
