* I thought it would be nice to start typing up explanations behind the winner of the Mod's Choice selection category. (If anyone thinks this isn't such a good idea, feel free to let me know.) alamateria is the lucky first person to have their icon critiqued - I have had a few years formal training in graphic design, and I take into account what I know makes a good graphic image when choosing the winner for this category. alamateria's icon is a good blend of using the requirements for the theme and making it creative. You can still tell what the image is of (Namine); it isn't washed out by the gradient. The font choice is excellent - it's clear and the typeface compliments the mood of the icon well. The brush/layer-type brings out the background and gives an overall "etheral" feeling that matched the text choice nicely. My only suggestion for improvement on this icon would probably be some sort of border - not necessarily a standard black line but some sort of defining edge; the white space in the lower lefthand corner, along with the text running the edge, makes the left side of the icon look cut off rather than a blend
And that's that. Congrats to everyone - each icon came out great. Banner maker this week is kimni.
