age-old dilemma

Apr 06, 2008 19:10

what do you do when you're bored, and you have nothing to do in the house?

the obvious answers are extirpated by this caveat: i am morally opposed to doing any work as a restorative after this week.

1) Leave the house
1a) Visit a zoo!
1b) Take pictures of random things
2) Exercise

Go for a long walk (and then map it out on Gmap pedometer on my return, yeah, that sounds a little geeky, but I really like Gmaps Pedometer: http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/ )

Ditto on the random photo taking.

Write to a friend I haven't heard from in a while.

Find a new recipe, sometimes something moderately involved or complicated or has some new technique to try, then go on a supply gathering mission, cook.

okay, i ended up being a lazy bum. too many ideas required getting out of the house. so i took a long bath. but then, when i saw your pedometer thing, that got me thinking. so i made a map of my walk to campus.

URL for this route is: http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=1765250

this is way cool. i can see elevation change. the actual distance (and not my guess). get calories burnt. very cool.

downside is that it requires short, straight lines, so the distance is somewhat off (considering i have to follow twisty roads, walk around the roundabouts and so on. still really cool.

You can get carried away and zoom way in, especially with the hybrid satellite image and plot out your exact path (I've done that for one or two of the larger loops I like to walk). It's also a nice way to get a better perspective on where you live. I looks like a nice green area from the satellite. Are you on public footpaths for any of that walk? Or rather, are there public footpaths around your area? We're riddled with them here, it's awesome!
